Proper handling of medication waste has been a focus of changing federal and State regulatory requirements over the past several years. Environmental concerns and controlled drug diversion are two drivers of change receiving much attention in many healthcare settings and even in residential environments.
This program will address the Federal requirements of the EPA and DEA and how they are addressed in the Skilled Nursing Facility Regulations. State regulatory requirements for residential care will also be discussed. In addition, we will discuss best practices for both healthcare and residential facilities.
Course Objectives will center around:
- Review of regulatory changes that drive facility policies and procedures.
- Risk management of medication waste storage, documentation, and disposal.
- Teamwork among staff to optimize compliance, recordkeeping, and task time.
