Quality Measures & Data Validation Audits
January 20, 2026
Newly appointed Resident Care Directors (RCDs)/Directors of Nursing (DONs), as well as Executive Directors/Administrators who are new to Assisted Living (AL), will be better prepared for success in their roles through a clear understanding of the scope, responsibilities, and expectations of the RCD position.
Participants will gain a solid understanding of the key differences between Assisted Living (AL) and Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) levels of care. In Assisted Living communities, the RCD/DON is often the sole licensed nurse on site, carrying primary responsibility for resident care oversight, clinical compliance, and care coordination. This program will help all attendees better appreciate the full extent of this role and foster respect for the clinical leadership the RCD provides within the community.
By strengthening role clarity and regulatory awareness, this session supports improved interdisciplinary collaboration, enhanced resident outcomes, and more effective leadership within Assisted Living and Residential Care environments.
Upon completion of this program, attendees will be able to:
- Clearly differentiate the role and responsibilities of the RCD/DON in Assisted Living settings versus Skilled Nursing Facilities.
- Describe how regulatory, operational, and acuity-level changes are reshaping the role of the Resident Care Director in Assisted Living, Residential Care, and Personal Care Homes, as well as in other nursing practice settings.
- Demonstrate an improved understanding of the core tasks, clinical responsibilities, and leadership expectations of the RCD role.
- Articulate the operational, clinical, and regulatory distinctions between Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing environments.
- Recognize the critical leadership function of the RCD/DON as the primary clinical authority within many Assisted Living communities.
