April 24, 2025One of LTC’s Greatest Challenges
Date: Wednesday, May 7, 2025
Webinar time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Central Time
1.0 CE for CEU credit for both nurses (AANAC) and administrators (NCERS/NAB)
This presentation will cover behavior management and the use of psychotropics when working with our dementia residents. It is imperative that staff can manage residents with dementia and understand the progression of this insidious disease. With the turnover in our nursing and CNA staff, it becomes increasingly challenging to keep staff informed about what it takes to care for these residents effectively.
Providing the appropriate, caring treatment is sometimes exceedingly difficult. Behavior management should be a collaborative effort involving not only nursing staff but also CNAs and PTs. Not just the social worker. All Staff must be coordinated when dealing with these residents during their outbursts or crying, which tend to increase as their disease worsens.
Objectives:
- List the signs and symptoms of dementia.
- Identify the diverse types of dementia.
- Understand the importance of medications and how to administer them to those in need appropriately.
- Understand the enhanced regulations focusing on unnecessary drugs when using psychotropics for dementia.
- Explain when psychotropic medications are unwarranted.
This program is essential for nurses, licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and new hires who work with residents with dementia.
