Since the Covid pandemic is now over two years old, there have been many changes in long-term care. Not only clinically, but regulatorily as well. One of the areas of concern to Surveyors since starting up their annual Survey process once again has been Physician Services.

Communication between Physicians and staff has always been difficult, but with the staffing shortages, and new hires with less experience working in the industry, communication has become more difficult than ever emphasizing ongoing care concerns. In addition, most Nurses including NPs really are not familiar with regulations for the MDs.

There have been multiple citations in Physician Services since DOH and CMS have started the annual surveys again! This program will review the Physician requirements and what we need to do for consistent compliance in Physician Services.

All members of the CCP team should be familiar with the requirements remembering that effective communication is the KEY to success in Resident Care and Outcomes!

OBJECTIVES:

• Understand the regulations specific to Physicians
• Identify the deficiencies CMS is citing with respect to Physician Services
• List the regulations involved in Dementia Care and Behavioral Health for MD’s
• Identify the requirements for use of Psychotropics and “PRN” Psychotropics
• Implement the appropriate documentation to validate care and management of residents by all disciplines including MD and Clinical Team.
• Document effectively compliant MD monthly notes
• Understand the scope and severity grid and how deficiencies are cited, even for MDs
