THE OPIOID CRISIS
Time to Rethink Pain Management?
Date: Wednesday, November 7, 2018

The image of the opioid addict is no longer just a young person. That demographic is fast becoming outdated a new study suggests. Today, someone abusing opioids could be a working mom (perhaps at your facility), or even a senior recently admitted.
Opioids are commonly prescribed for the elderly to treat chronic pain, increasing the risk of abuse and addiction. Between 2006 and 2012 U.S., emergency rooms saw a 78% rise in visits involving seniors and prescription or illicit drug misuse.
Older adults are likely to experience emotional, physical, social and cognitive changes that often lead to taking medications as a coping mechanism. This is especially true for seniors with serious health problems.
Join us for this informative webinar when we will review…
- How we got to this point – the Opioid Nation
- What we can do to relieve its impact
- More effective ways of screening for substance abuse
- Ways to identify harmful patterns of opioid use including addiction
- What’s working and what’s not in prevention and treatment
Jan Pizzolanti, RPh, President of Experienced RX Consults, will provide suggestions for better controlling the potential opioid crisis in our LTC Communities.
