Reimbursement has dramatically changed and will continue to evolve for skilled nursing homes over the next two years. Resource Utilization Groups (RUGs) flow from the MDS and drive Medicare reimbursement to nursing homes under the Proposed Payment System (PPS).
Fiscal year 2020 now looks to be a banner year for the expansion of the Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program according to the FY2018 SNF Prospective Payment System (PPS) Proposed Rule.
If new MDS-based SNF QRP quality measures are adopted as proposed, MDS assessment coordinators would have to manage the implementation of multiple new or revised standardized MDS items in FY2019, which became effective October 1, 2018. These were adopted to comply with data collection requirements for the FY2020 payment determination.
This program will review these changes and help you to navigate successfully through completion of the MDS Document.
