Covid-19, personal choices, and worker burnout have converged on the health care community in the perfect storm, all contributing to the record numbers of Americans addicted to opioids and other controlled substances. The prevalence and availability of all types of opioids, both legally by prescription and illegal street versions, have continued to fuel the growing numbers of those becoming afflicted with a substance abuse disorder.
As expected, the risks for drug diversion and theft, have become even more commonplace in healthcare organizations and pharmacies. Diversion of controlled substances in facilities is a real threat to the health and well-being of the residents we care for and the professional staff who care for them.
